We have a New Moon in Leo on 24 July 2025 at 21.11 BST. Leo’s usual role is to stir boldness and expression, but this time its an internal fire we are making contact with. Due to the Mercury retrograde, naturally we are asked to go inside, be more internal, and make more contact with ourselves.
Entering this new lunar cycle inside a Mercury retrograde phase works to temper the Leo fire. And Mercury’s backward motion in Leo is drawing our attention back to the places long hidden—whether it’s what got buried in childhood, the ancestral field we play out, or the gifts that went unrecognised and twisted inwards against us in symptoms.
All this shows up in the form of strong, repeating patterns that have lived with us for many years, generations and lifetimes.
Our strong, old patterns can surface now—like the ways we’ve adopted to be included, or to moderate your own truth, or voice, so others will receive you. But at what cost? Do we truly need to be heard and seen in the ways we’ve been conditioned to seek? That we drop or lower our authenticity so that others acknowledge our existence.
It goes without saying that in certain environments, we have to speak with extra care and awareness, and give a polished presence—and yet beneath all this something more honest lives, which couldn’t care less about what others think. It’s a deeper place inside and unless we make contact with it, it will make contact with us, and usually in ways we don’t like. So it’s in our interest to meet it. Generally people avoid this deeper place, for many reasons, and are often more prepared to die than meet it. But that’s for a whole other discussion.
The question for now is why do we need this internal nature right in the height of summer, when everything is in full bloom, outpouring it’s Leo majesty?

Because we’re now face to face with the question of what makes something feel real—and whether we’re still willing to stand behind it. What blooms externally without any fundamental substance has no life in it. For example, many live from an idealised sense of themselves—articulate, together, well-meaning—yet completely disconnected from the deeper pulse of life. The revealing now is that this sort of flat or hollow living will not sustain our life and body’s vitality. Something fuller from our depth, our roots, needs to emerge.
And with the onset, or onslaught of AI, we are being confronted with our own and others struggle for authenticity – does it even matter now? Can we compromise it? And if so, how much? People playing with AI are like children with a new toy. Many are totally oblivious to the much deeper mechanisms at work – both internally and externally.
Is it that we are having a collective edge around showing our roughness… Does real speech feels riskier than something perfect and polished? Or do we just want to appear better than we actually are? What is actually driving us now? Whether it’s through the amped up use of AI or something else, it’s the same pattern; that we feel we need to be more. This is what we need to put in the dustbin.
Leo is the fire of sovereignty yet when it moves from a surface or image position, it can become pride and over-expression. Or just disconnected from the depth of the source within, the feeling, the truth of who you are. Because the external world rewards image, we learn early that being accepted, praised, or safe often depends on fitting ourselves to others’ expectations. Over time, this teaches us to value outcomes and output over our integrity. We bypass ourselves, constantly, whether we are ‘spiritual’ or not.
Many also carry hidden pride as a kind of shield, claiming it as an unmet need. They demand respect. To be heard, seen, recognised. They walk around with hidden entitlement, naval gazing into their own ‘process’, as though the world owes them something. And worse still, they demand the world owes ‘other people’ something, displacing and projecting out their own woundedness making prideful victims of others. It becomes a righteousness by proxy. The truth is that the world owes you and others nothing. And God will not be bargained with. True healing begins the moment you stop insisting someone else must change in order for you to feel whole. The shift begins inside—once that is met, the rest can follow. The only victims are those who keep believing the role serves themselves, others or the world.
So this Moon invites us to shift to self-recognition, away from the external world, just in time, as the external world begins to feel saturated and overwhelming. If we can stop obsessively reaching outward, and instead hold our attention inward. To recognise what’s unresolved, what’s still there, and what now feels ready to dissolve. That’s the role of this retrograde Mercury. It makes space for that kind of clarity to arise.
So this isn’t a time to charge ahead. It’s a time to listen inside, to track, pause and rethink. What we were so clear and sure upon is up to revisit. Plans might shift but it’s probably better than you shift nothing and just enter a little into the unknown. Underneath things something quiet is aligning—perhaps how you express yourself, and what that expression serves.

This is about how what once felt finished may begin to stir open again—the dormant is awakening, and if we use our awareness, we will notice that something has changed, something is different. How we meet what arises in our lives, from a place that doesn’t hanker or hunger for certainty or needs/desires met.
And while Saturn continues its retrograde in early Aries, it’s reconfiguring how we respond to desires and being recognised. For some, this will play out through relationships—but for others, it will surface in their connection to creativity, purpose, or clarity around their own path.
Many are realising they no longer need to chase what doesn’t move toward them. The new pattern, of reaching into inner silence, trying to hold the thread on behalf of the other, is dissolving. In its place, a different kind of presence becomes possible—one that allows the truth to arise in its own timing.
Some connections take longer to come to fruition—especially when being seen feels too risky. Many are still holding the fear of what happened last time they opened, last time they expressed something real, whether they have a conscious memory of this or not.
Under this Leo wave of energy, and Mercury retrograde, the old, guarded within the heart, comes up to be seen. And so, when words cannot be spoken, for whatever reason, a gesture, an action, even the smallest act of contact can reveal more than any explanation ever could. It it wise for us to stay silent with our words now but reach into the other levels of our expression—gesture, presence, subtle contact—each often more revealing than words, as they will say more, be received and felt more deeply.
This is about how we place our energy, and how we hold ourselves while waiting for life to meet us. Yes sometimes we need to meet life, but sometimes we need to learn how life meets us first. Less effort or energy is required, and all of us need to learn to force ourselves less. Leo currents bring warmth and gentle self-respect, but this one also carries a large dose of discernment. It asks us to stay visible, expressive, and grounded, to be ourselves—but without crossing any lines. Stay close to the line. Straddle it carefully. And retract away from it if you need.
The deeper current here is about feeling the direction. Life does not support holding out for a clarity, waiting, hoping, avoiding. Shifts happen when we stop trying to make what’s ambiguous mean something. As we never really know do we, until we know. We have to just let the search for meaning go. What’s true will begin to take up space again, perhaps differently, again though, we must not fall into the trap of making it mean something, because we feel we then deserve something. Again, we cannot bargain with God.
Leo rules the heart, the spine, and the energetic centre from which we offer ourselves. When that centre is alive, our actions, words feel generous and alive also. This New Moon invites a return in our life. Through honest, clear contact. Through what feels real, through what aligns, emerges from a natural space. Mars continues to move through Cancer, heading toward the South Node in Libra—a process already stirred at the last Full Moon. This phase helps us become aware of where energy is leaking—into the old, mitigating our capacity to be honest and clear.

Venus in Gemini squares Mars in Cancer during this lunation highlighting questions around connection and direction. Venus wants variety, movement, new perspectives. Mars holds protection, defensiveness and emotion. You may feel pulled in different directions—between seeking understanding and seeking safety. This is a clarifying energy, and so it is not new; it’s been around for a while.
Saturn continues its retrograde in Aries. This long, slow rhythm shapes the deeper fabric of reality. It begins to dissolve the scaffolding holding things together—the identities, the strategies, that once made sense, that were lived without a second thought. Life is feeling less solid, more fluid, like we can change things, when the feeling arises. The intractable can shift, but not always on our terms.
In a sense, the separate nature of our existence is holding less weight. We are able to see how we can’t have it all on our own terms in the way our little self would desire. This is not sovereignty. We are getting precisely what we need, but most of the time, we are not ready to receive it and so reject it. Once we learn to feel, see, observe in different ways, to include the other as someone also on our side, not entirely separate from us, then things can shift or surprise us. People can surprise us. These changes are quiet in their presentation, but tangible and deeply real somehow also. The Leo New Moon helps you feel them.
Uranus, now in Gemini, intensifies mental activity. It brings us speed, shifts out of nowhere, and innovation. Ideas arrive faster and conversations skip steps, it’s again reflecting this sense of overnight changes within our reach. Yet at the same time, the nervous system may feel fragmented so we need to filter somewhat what we allow to come in. If we listen from within, to our own signal, we usually get it right.
You may notice a tendency to be more within, or a new depth, if you slow down. A desire to delay the response and choose your words with care, or to stop communication. These signs point to a strengthening of what’s inside, a move away from reflex or reaction, toward inner connection.
There can also be tenderness here. Because being inside and recognising what has been carried for too long can bring up our vulnerability and inner truth of our feelings. It’s also relieving in a way. When you see the energy that went into surviving life, you can begin to call that energy back home. It begins with noticing and with honest acknowledgement of how you feel.
This Moon supports small, rooted shifts. It’s also clearer that we need to stop holding up or on to dynamics that have outlived their purpose, we are not here to be the emotional sponges or force intimacy where it is not invited or welcomed. We need to come back to ourselves, more frequency and with more consistency.
Mercury and Saturn continue their retrograde arcs in the coming weeks. Mercury stations direct on 11 August. So this deeper review—of your voice, your commitments, your patterns, revisions of your work, a relationship, or reframe what you believe about certain things you’ve taken for granted – all are up for shifts. All this can come from a deeper internal congruence, which then requires less strong, intense external force to restructure our internal patterns. More internal connection allows more grace to enter into our lives.
The Full Moon on 19 August will reflect more of this back to you also. Until then, let this New Moon soften and restore you. Let it bring warmth and connection back to the places in you that have waited for your own recognition – no longer seeking from the outside—they seek inclusion inside.
Sovereignty strengthens when attention comes home and we express from that place. When what you say or do not say, matches what you feel. And when your choices grow from the ground of what’s actually true for you.
Collectively, we’re being asked to reassess what we’ve been relying on to feel safe or ‘on track’. This current Neptune–Saturn pairing in early Aries is dissolving the frameworks we’ve built—whether that’s a fixed identity or role, a long-term plan, or an image of how life was supposed to unfold. What once motivated may now feel hollow or distant. Or that the old sense of urgency around clarity or certainty just isn’t holding the same grip. If this is so, it’s a powerful a reorientation.
So instead of charging ahead or trying to force meaning, there’s value now in pausing, as the energies encourage, and letting the next layer of reality show itself. What stays standing after all of this clears will have roots. Yes the process may feel strange or destabilising at times, but it’s working for you. Things are being stripped back to make space for something more honest, and more aligned with who you are now.
This Leo New Moon invites more than anything a quieter kind of courage—the kind that lets go of the mask so to finally feel what’s real beneath it. And from there, our world begins to shift. Through inner contact. That is the medicine of this Moon. And it begins inside.
